I set up my accounts with Facebook and Linkin. I much preferred Facebook (you can see my profile here. I was able to locate several of my colleagues very quickly, and add some useful utilities. Our Library is considering using Facebook for our staff. For those who are used to it, it could be a potentially friendlier atmosphere for communication (and a way to select JUST the applications they use the most, in a format that is easy for them to find).
However, I do think new users should be cautioned about just what information about themselves they should make available. I can see libraries needing to formulate guidelines for their staff!

Using a Wiki
I decided to create a wiki that reflected a personal interest - the presence of women doctors in Hollywood films. My main interest is in films of the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's, but I will try to include links to films (with images where I can find them). Right now, it's just a list, but I invision it could include analysis of the films. Take a look at my wiki at the: Women Doctors in the Movies Wiki.

Blogging as an Alert service for Medical Libraries
Blogs can be useful as a current awareness tool for medical libraries. Just set yourself up with some relevant news feeds, via RSS. Then, post the results (with appropriate links) via your blogsite. Patrons can respond (via the comments) with how they found the information useful, or can comment on other areas that would serve their needs. The Librarian's news reader (with TOC services from relevant journals, or newsfeeds from important news media), can help quickly alert the librarian to what's new, hot and even fun.
